About Poeirinho

The Poeirinho, whose name reflects the ancient name of the Berry variety, is like a tribute to the great Bairradine wines of the past.

Dirk Niepoort has an enormous passion for the Baga variety and the terrific "terroir" of the Bairrada region. Dirke has sought out small portions of Baga from very old vines scattered around Cantanhede over the last 3 years. These wines are light in colour and alcohol amount, elegant and fine just after bottling, but with enormous potential for keeping. In 2012, in the first edition of Poeirinho, we created an incredibly fresh and precise wine, which is, in our opinion, already one of the best non-fortified wines produced by Niepoort.
